Quick answer

Survey panels need profile and response data to match participants and deliver research, but you should still know who controls the account data, when information goes to a research partner and how to exercise privacy rights.

Account data and survey answers

Account details identify and manage the member, while profile and survey answers support matching and research. These categories can be handled differently and may have different retention periods.

Who may receive information

A panel can use service providers for hosting, identity checks, fraud prevention and rewards. Survey responses may also go to researchers or clients under the platform's research process. Read the privacy notice for the actual roles and purposes.

Sensitive questions and optional features

Some studies request personal information, webcam access or follow-up contact. Participate only when the request, purpose and recipient are clear and you are comfortable with the choice.

Cookies and tracking

Necessary storage can support login and security, while analytics, advertising or affiliate tracking can have separate purposes. Consent choices should explain optional categories rather than hiding them inside general site use.

Access, correction and deletion

Privacy notices should explain how to update inaccurate information, request access or close an account. Deletion rights can have exceptions where an organisation must retain limited records for legal, security or dispute purposes.

The ICO provides public guidance on deletion rights and what to do when an organisation does not respond appropriately.

A practical privacy routine

Use a dedicated email address, limit optional permissions, keep profile answers accurate and periodically close accounts you no longer use. Do not include unnecessary personal details in screenshots sent to support.

Practical checklist

  • Read the privacy notice before detailed profiling
  • Identify the account data controller
  • Review optional webcam or contact permissions
  • Use a dedicated email address
  • Remove personal details from support screenshots
  • Use the published privacy contact for rights requests

Where the feature is optional, you can decline it. Check the platform controls and the individual study information before participating.

Can I ask a panel to delete my account?+

You can make a request, although limited records may sometimes be retained for legal, security or dispute purposes.

Should I send screenshots to support?+

Screenshots can help, but remove unrelated personal, financial or security information first.
